The Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities has awarded Any Baby Can of San Antonio Inc. a grant for $228,610 to support the first year of a five-year project.

The project will promote health, physical fitness, and the inclusion of children and youth with development disabilities via recreational and fitness activities.

State Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, D-San Antonio, made the announcement on Monday.

?The whole family will be involved in the health and wellness plan which will include both exercise and nutrition,? Van de Putte says. ?Any Baby Can plans to work with at least 30 families in the first year and 50 to 60 families each of the remaining four years.?

The project will involve families in San Antonio and Bexar County. Participants will receive an instructional DVD on home fitness, an exercise picture book and wellness/fitness journal.

The council is a 27-member board that works to improve the lives of more than 450,000 Texans with developmental disabilities.
